The E4 Art Contest is an annual event hosted by Elite Fourum, a community focused on Pokémon card collecting. Officially known as the E4 Art & Illustration Contest, it invites participants of all skill levels to submit artwork across four categories. The contest is free to enter, encourages participation from both novice and experienced artists, and emphasizes inclusivity by welcoming original creations, childlike drawings, and digital art.
This is the second time I’m entering, though just like last year, I won’t be submitting anything of my own. Last year, I entered my daughter Leila into two categories and she did fantastic, even earning an honorable mention for coming so close to winning! This year, I am entering both my eldest, Leila, and my youngest, Lara.

Child Drawing – by Lara (Age 5) #
Snorlax’s Snooze #
Lara loves lots of different Pokémon, and she chose to draw Snorlax for the competition. She started by drawing Snorlax and part of the background, added an apple on top of Snorlax’s head, and then included a few other Pokémon: Caterpie in the tree, Squirtle in the pond, and Dedenne in the bottom-left grass. She finished it all off with some dot work.
We are so proud of how hard she worked on her artwork!
Recreation – by Leila (Age 10) #

Remembering last year’s contest, Leila already knew the routine. I asked her to draw whatever she wanted, and I’d handle fitting it into a matching category. She chose to recreate a still of Piplup from the anime, adding her own signature twist.
She started out with pen and paper, but grew frustrated over small details. After multiple scrapped attempts, she switched to her tablet where she felt more comfortable, even if she feels the final result isn’t as strong. I think all of her work is amazing, she is extremely talented.
In hindsight, I should have suggested a different aspect ratio before she started, as her canvas defaulted to 1:1, which doesn’t crop ideally for a Pokémon card, But we are both still happy with the result!
I thank the organisers, azulryu, and brendantheclayboy, for another year. Everyone did great, and some really amazing art pieces were submitted.
Like last years, I turned my kids’ entries into personal cards for them.
